Loss of values from one template to another

I have copied and pasted from someone’s template to mine, and the font changes. My style is set to Arial and the other template is as well. Is there another setting I am missing or a variable that maintains the information from one template to the next?

Copied is one thing but and what do you use for QNEW in your OPTIONS?

My QNEW is set to my company’s template. It is a new template, and my old one didn’t have this problem. I was thinking some variable or setting in the new template was changed.

Exactly what did changed ? the font got substitute, font heigh.....

Put the .dwt out on network, both use that one for qnew, see what changed, then check the arial font from each PC to see if they are the same.
I 've seen arial font changed before, but that was a long time ago.

It changed from Arial to txt. When I type in the new template it is set to Arial. When I copy it in from any other template, it changes to  txt. Then I have to go and DDEDIT all the text to Arial.

Sounds like autocad doesn't talk to windows. Is this new installation and which win version are you using?

Unless something else is going on they pasted objects take on ALL the settings you have in your file. So check the actual STYLE name being used and what don't it is set to use; don't simply go by what you see on screen. Dig deeper and find out more please.

If the font changes when you insert content from another DWG/DWT into your current DWG, this means the text style name in the copied content matches a text style name in the current DWG, but they are defined differently in the two files.  The incoming stuff will always take on the characteristics defined in the current DWG.

As others have suggested, make sure the font specified in the text style is the same font in both places, and that the font is available.  In the case of SHX, AutoCAD must know where to find it.  In the case of TTF, the font must be loaded in Windows.

AutoCad is talking fine with windows. As I mentioned in my first post, both templates are set to Arial in the style setting. It is a new template corporate sent me and the issue is in this new template. It's style setting is Arial, yet when I pull in a font from another templat it changes to txt.

Prove it: post DWG files for all to try.

I read your first post. Smiley Wink

There and in your current post I get the impression (and I mean no disrespect - this is based only on what you have written here) that you are not clear on the difference between "style" and "font".

"...both templates are set to Arial in the style setting"

"It is a new template corporate sent me and the issue is in this new template. It's style setting is Arial, yet when I pull in a font from another templat it changes to txt"

Open up your new template (or start a new DWG based on it) and look at the properties of the style in question.  What is the name of the style?  Is that style defined with the Arial font?  Is it the TrueType Arial or the AutoCAD (SHX) arial?  Post a copy of it here if you'd like us to take a look.

Open up the "other template" and look at the properties of that same style.  Compare the two. Are they the same? Are they indicating the same font?

When you say "pull in a font from another template", it is unclear what you mean.  I assume you mean "copy in text or mtext from another DWG/DWT" (a DWT is simply a re-named DWG).  This text has a certain style, which is defined with a certain font in its source file.  If the font (or any other aspect of the style) changes upon insert into a destination file, then the style name must match a style name that exists in the destination (current DWG/DWT) and the definition in the destination must be different than it is in the source.

That's only "half" of the problem: where is the other destination file?

Also, you appear to not be paying attention to several tips being offered here. Can you try something on your own:
- Open both of your files with OPEN command in AutoCAD.
- In each file start STYLE command (just type it then hit <enter>).
- Look at the list of each text style and see what fonts are assigned.
- In your template file that you posted there are SIX text styles but only one of them is set to ARIAL. The template file is using every one of them in all the titleblocks. What are the STYLE settings in the other file? Are all six set the same?

I apologize for any confusion.  I am super busy at work and had several files open. I must have looked at the wrong template at the time. One of the six fonts in the style settings was set to txt. I was also getting frustrated too. Thank you very much for any assistance offered.  We can call this thread resolved and closed.
